The indoor coil holds ice-cold refrigerant pumped in from the air conditioner or heat pump. Warm air is pulled from the home and forced through the coil to be cooled. As heat energy moves from the air to the cold refrigerant, water condensates on the coil.
Guess what likes to grow in the dark, damp interior described above? You guessed it…mold. And if mold grows, cooling efficiency suffers, as does air quality. A UV lamp mounted in the coil will kill surface and airborne mold and bacteria.
